Week 8 Instructional Design

“Instructional Design is defined as “a systematic process that is employed to develop education and training programs in a consistent and reliable fashion” (Reiser, Dempsey, 2007). In addition, it may be thought of as a framework for developing modules or lessons that (Merrill, Drake, Lacy, Pratt, 1996)"

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN IN CALL
1. Involves creating computer courseware for learning.
2. Courseware acts as supplement/support to lesson and not as complete replacement.
3. Courseware can be designed for use inside and outside of lesson.

LEARNERS NEEDS

1. The gap between what the learners want to get out of education and the learner's current skill or knowledge.
2. What the learner’s need to learn.
3. Needs analysis:
– Syllabus
– Survey

• Gives an aim to the learning experience
• Learning Outcomes can be measurable to assess the success of learners

1. Creating materials and lessons to instruct learners
2. Needs Analysis identifies what the learner’s need to learn
3. Learning Outcome gives the lessons a unified aim to be achieved
4. ISD Involves
- Creation of syllabus
- Planning of lesson
- Material selection and adaptation
- Planning of implementation and intervention

ADDIE MODEL
1. A framework for the development of instructional
coursework
– Analysis
– Design
– Development
– Implementation
– Evaluation

ANALYSIS
1. Identifies the objectives, learners level and needs
2. Who are the learners?
3. What is the desired behaviour of achievement?
4. What are the delivery options?
5. What are the learning theories applied?

DESIGN
• Identifying and developing plans and strategies targeted to achieve the project goals
• Involves dealing with the learning objectives, learners needs, learning theories, materials, exercises and content
• Creating a “storyboard” of what the courseware should look like

DEVELOPMENT
• Developers create and assemble content and assets based on the blueprint in the design phase
• Creators develop graphics and materials and integrate them into the courseware
• Testers check for bugs and errors.

IMPLEMENTATION
• Develop procedures for the implementation of the courseware
• Training facilitators and learners to use the courseware
• Create a lesson plan where the courseware can be used

EVALUATION
1.  Evaluating the impact of the courseware
2. Formative evaluation
    Effectiveness
    Usefulness
    Relevancy
3. Summative evaluatio
Effectiveness of the courseware as a whole
Should be adopted, continued, or modified for improvement
